Dr. Patrick Lorenz, born in 1962, has more than 20 years of industry experience, especially in the fields of biotechnology and molecular biology. After attaining his degree in biology at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany he went on to do his doctorate at the University of Basel, Switzerland, where, after joining the working group headed by Dr. Bruno Betschart at the Swiss Tropical Institute, he received his zoology doctorate in 1994.

Afterwards, Dr. Lorenz worked as Senior Research Scientist in Prof. Clayton’s multinational group at the Center for Molecular Biology at the University of Heidelberg focusing, among other subjects, on the biogenesis of organelles in the Trypanosoma brucei parasite. In 1998 he joined BRAIN AG for the first time, initially working as a project manager and then as Enzyme Technology Unit Head. In that role, he was primarily responsible for the development of the metagenomics platform and managed various industrial cooperation projects as well as R&D projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Having gained almost ten years of work experience at a biotech start-up, Dr. Lorenz took up a new job at AB Enzymes based in Darmstadt, Germany in 2007, where he headed the Molecular Biology department. At his new company, he was first and foremost responsible for the microbial expression (Bacillus, Trichoderma, Aspergillus) and gene mining technology platforms.

Some eleven years later, in January 2019, Dr. Lorenz returned to BRAIN AG as New Business Development Manager of the Enzymes section within the Nutrition & Health Business Unit.
