BRAIN AG receives prestigious design and creativity award for first post-IPO annual report

  • The Red Dot Award ceremony will take place at Konzerthaus Berlin on 27 October
  • In June 2017, BRAIN’s annual report already received a Best of Content Marketing (BCM) Award Silver Certificate

After BRAIN AG’s successful IPO in February 2016, the very first annual report published by the bioeconomy pioneer has also been honoured with a prestigious Red Dot Award. The jury for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 made its decision after a process spanning several days during which the 24 experts strong jury assessed more than 8,000 submissions in the form of communication-related and creative works by agencies, designers and companies from 50 participating countries. Following the evaluation, they awarded the Red Dot in different categories, thus recognizing high design quality and special creative achievements. BRAIN AG’s annual report for the 2015/16 fiscal year, entitled “Engineering Biology”, is among this year’s prizewinners. Consequently, the annual report will also be presented in the International Yearbook Communication Design 2017/2018, to be published in November 2017.

The award ceremony for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 will take place on 27 October during the Red Dot Gala at Konzerthaus Berlin, the Berlin Concert Hall. Only in June 2017 BRAIN’s latest annual report had received a Best of Content Marketing (BCM) silver certificate in Europe’s biggest competition for content-driven corporate communication.

Says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “I am delighted that agencies, designers and companies from all over the world have once again used the Red Dot Award: Communication Design as an evaluation platform. It is important to subject one’s own achievements to scrutiny again and again in order to constantly improve and maximise the potential for success. I congratulate the Red Dot winners on the high design quality of their work. The award testifies to the fact that they are pursuing the right design strategy”.

Dr Martin Langer, member of the BRAIN Management Board, considers the nomination to be an expression of BRAIN’s unique corporate culture: “The annual report is the central medium for our communication with BRAIN’s shareholders. We have endeavored to meet this high standard, a fact that has been acknowledged numerous times by the capital market. We are all the more pleased that the conceptual and creative work we are undertaking in a small inter-disciplinary team has been honoured with a design award for the second time now. The entire BRAIN team may be very proud of bestowal of the Red Dot Award.“

Together with a small team of colleagues, Dipl.-Des. Bettina Schreiner, Art Director at BRAIN, was involved in content structuring and conceptualizing of the report and also had overall responsibility for the report’s graphic design. Says Schreiner: “BRAIN’s first annual report underscores the company’s strategic focus on becoming a fully integrated bioeconomy company. The objective of the report was to convey a comprehensive and authentic picture of BRAIN with a focus on our core competency, ‘Engineering Biology’. Within the field of communications and design we follow the same high standards of quality and creativity as in our core disciplines science, technology development and production. I am delighted that this has been recognized with the award.”

In BRAIN AG’s conception of itself, communication, information and design are core fields of activity for the company. In the past, BRAIN has been honoured quite a number of times for its scientific achievements and for extraordinary activities in the areas of art, culture, and communication. Before receiving the above mentioned BCM Award in June 2017 for its annual report, the last such occasion came about in 2016, when the company was presented with the prestigious WERKBUND Label, which is awarded for prototypical, innovative and important activities and good design. The company also received the honour of a “Special Mention” on the occasion of the 2014 German Design Award by the German Design Council for the exceptional quality of design found in the corporate BLICKWINKEL magazine. As early as 2013, the same magazine had been presented with that year’s iF communication design award by iF Industrie Forum Design e.V.
